Svanetian Salt Georgian Flavorful Condiment

Introduction: Svanetian Salt, originating from the Svaneti region in the mountainous north-western part of Georgia, has a unique fragrance and taste. It is traditionally used as a flavoring for various meat, fish, potato, and soup dishes or as a condiment instead of table salt. This salt mixture is handmade from 8 ingredients and is easy to make at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 heaped tbsp dried coriander
  • 1 heaped tbsp dried dill
  • 1 heaped tbsp blue fenugreek
  • 1 heaped tbsp dried red pepper
  • 1 heaped tbsp marigold
  • 1/2 tbsp dried cumin
  • 6.5 heaped tbsp coarse white salt
  • 150g garlic

Instructions:

  1. Peel and crush the garlic cloves. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix dried coriander, dried dill, blue fenugreek, dried red pepper, marigold, dried cumin, and coarse white salt.
  3. Add the crushed garlic to the dry mixture.
  4. Using your fingers, mix the crushed garlic with the other ingredients, ensuring that they are thoroughly combined.
  5. The mixed ingredients will feel slightly moist. Store the mixture in a dry, cool place in a glass jar with an airtight seal.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Use Svanetian Salt as a condiment instead of table salt.
  • Add it as a flavoring when cooking a variety of meat, fish, potato, and soup dishes.
